Born among the semi-independent Maroons of Portland, Jamaica West Indies, of a strict family of Jehovah's Witnesses. Despite limited opportunities for formal education, Mr. Edwards was raised reading the Bible. His frequent questioning of the teachings of the sect and his search for understanding caused him to leave some 10 years ago.
